Babe - a girl
Backwash - water heading out to sea from a previous wave
Bail - to leave
Barrel - to surf in the area inside the breaking wave
Betty - a pretty girl
Bitchin' - cool
Blackball - a flag indicating no hardboards allowed
Blown out - a condition that occurs when the wind reduces the waves in size to an unsurfable condition
Bro - a friend
Bud - a friend
Carve - to ride a wave
Chill - relax, as in "Chill out"
Cool - we all know what this means
Crash and Burn - strike out with a girl
Closed Out - a wave that provides breaks simultaneously along its length, providing very little in action
Coin - money, cash
Churn - to get tumbled by the wave
Ding - a dent in a surfboard, also to dent
Drop in - to cut in front of another surfer while riding a wave
Duck dive - to push your board into the water to dive under the whitewash
Dude - your friend, another man
El Rollo - a body board manuever, basically an aquatic barrell roll
Five - O - a cop, from the TV program "Hawaii Five-O"
Gnarlly - something dangerous, usally a wave
Going off - great waves
Green Room - see barrell
Grinds - food
Grommet - young surfer
Hang Ten - to surf with one's toes hanging over the front edge of the board
Hard body - a pretty girl
HB - Huntington Beach, also known as Surf City
Hollie - a person from inland, usually someone unable to surf, but who thinks they can
Hottie - a pretty girl
Hurl - to throw up
Jake - cool
Juicin' - cool
Killer - great, as in a "killer ride"
Lid - body board
Loose - in a good way, singularly or collectively
Man - see Dude
On - surfs-up, a good set, as in: "oh man it's on!"; - what you'd say about a hard body
Over the Top - to get carried over the wave as it crashes, see Churn
Pearl - to dive head first into the water, usually accidently
Rad - cool
Rage - to party hard
Ride the Falls - See Over the Top
Salt-shake - waves, going-off, usually big storm waves, surfing; - something most need a hottie for
Set - a number of waves, as in "Here comes a set"
Shoulder Hopper - see Drop In
Skeg - a fin on a surfboard
Skeg-bait - hollie
Skanky - ugly
Skip - a girl
South swell - waves coming in from the South Pacific usually meaning a good set
Spunge - see lid
Squirrels - non-locals
Stick - surfboard
Stoked - happy
Stylin' - cool
Surf's up - the call all surfers love to hear
Swell - waves
Tight- in a good way, collectively, or about an object Tooled - thrashed
Totally - yes
Thrashed - beat up, worn
Troll - ugly woman or man
Trolling - looking for babes, day or night
Tube - see Barrell
Valley - a person from the San Fernando Valley, usually said with a sneer
Whitewash - the remnants of a wave that has broken.
Wipe Out - to crash or fall while surfing
